In October 2023, I was in Hong Kong, visiting electronics trade shows as I love to do…
These trips are an excellent way to explore new products, gather ideas and meet suppliers. I met with one of our main car audio suppliers, I call him Baggio (not his real name, as I’ve never quite managed to pronounce it correctly). I joked with Baggio how I’d never received a Christmas present from him, unlike some of his other customers.
With a laugh, he replied, “We usually give you the American present.” When I asked what that was, he grinned and said, “Thoughts and prayers.”
Naturally, I wasn’t going to let that slide. I told him, “We’ve sold nearly 50,000 products for you—surely I deserve something cool! You know I’d actually love one of those fancy electric golf trundlers that follows you around the course.” (It wasn’t entirely serious, but as someone who loves gadgets, I thought it’d be fun to show off to a few mates).
Then at the same trade show I did see a very flash golf trundler. It had GPS tracking for thousands of courses worldwide, including New Zealand. I’m a very average golfer, but I’ve never met a gadget I didn’t like. (Actually, change that, Tamagotchis are stupid).
I chatted with the vendor and after some back-and-forth, it became clear I wasn’t about to purchase two shipping containers of trundlers. So, I returned to Baggio and cheekily reminded him about the Christmas present. Surprisingly, he agreed and told me I had a few minutes to decide what I wanted!
Straight away I knew what would be a great Christmas present. I get hundreds of emails daily, and most I ignore. One stood out—a message from a company called Leaderhub who sell interactive touchscreen TVs. It was 86 inches, and did lots of stuff. It was a whiteboard, a video conference device, and had Wi-Fi connectivity. Plus it came with commercial standard. I asked Baggio to send me one of these Leaderhub screens as my “Christmas present.”
An Unexpected Surprise
When it arrived, I’ll admit, I wasn’t expecting much. However it was beautifully packed in a strong crate, and was surprised at the quality of the build—it was heavy and robust. We found it very easy to assemble and install.
Once we turned it on and set it up, we were blown away by how good it was. It wasn’t just functional; it was fun to use!
From Curiosity to Commitment
We started using the screen for training sessions and conference calls with overseas suppliers. Every time I showed it to our trade customers, the reaction was the same—they were impressed by the quality and value. During one of our EV Owners’ Club nights, I demonstrated the screen to David from Get Electronics. After examining it, he asked, “Who’s going to service these?” David said, “This is really well made—can I buy one and act as your service agent?”
That’s when I decided to dig deeper. Using our quality control team in China, I learned more about Leaderhub and received glowing feedback. The more we used the screen, the more our team loved it. Its versatility, simplicity, and, frankly, how cool and fun it was to use won us over.
Becoming the New Zealand Distributor
Soon after, I contacted Leaderhub directly. When they asked if I wanted to be their agent in New Zealand, I didn’t hesitate. We worked together to ensure the units were compliant with New Zealand’s electrical standards, and I’m thrilled to say that we’re now the official distributor for Leaderhub interactive screens.
These screens do everything—from connecting up to four PCs at once to facilitating cricket umpire training sessions! Whether for schools, businesses, or home use, they’re a fantastic addition to any space. Watch our videos to learn about all the things they can do.
Looking Ahead
Leaderhub has big plans for the future, and we’re excited to be part of their journey here in New Zealand. These screens are just the beginning, and we’re confident they represent exceptional value for money.
