One factor in the EV buying decision is range and with over 100 models (including variants) on the market which can do over 430 km* on one charge, NZ drivers have more choice now than ever before.
*The maximum distance you can drive on one charge depends on a number of factors. The range estimates given by the manufacturers shouldn’t be expected in real world conditions
Long range Type 2 EVs don’t require any specific brand of charging equipment. The advice we give to Type 2 owners is:
There is no need to purchase a certain brand of EVSE, just make sure that the charging products are legal for use in NZ. Obviously we would like you to buy ours!
Top Tips
Choose a charging method to suit your car and lifestyle
Level 1 (120V): Suitable for overnight charging at home when a slow charge is sufficient.
Level 2 (240V): Ideal for regular home charging, offering faster speeds.
DC Fast Charging: Use sparingly to prevent long-term battery degradation. Reserve it for road trips or when you need a quick top-up.
Maximise battery performance
Unless you’re preparing for a long trip, charge up to 80-90% to reduce stress on the battery and prolong its lifespan.
Try not to let the battery level fall below 20% regularly. Keeping the charge within the 20%-80% range is optimal for battery health.
Use scheduled charging:
Take advantage of scheduled charging features to charge during off-peak hours, which can lower electricity costs and reduce grid strain.
Use quality EV charging equipment
Opt for certified charging stations at home and on the go. Poor-quality chargers may cause power fluctuations and damage your battery.
