What Charging Plug do I need to order?
The most common question we are asked by our customers is “What Charging Plug do I need to order?”
The answer to this question depends on whether you have a Type 1 or Type 2 EV/PHEV. Please note, your EV/PHEV may have come with another type of charging port. The size and shape depends on where that car came from and if it is for DC or AC charging.
Type 2 charging ports can be found on Teslas, Type 2 EVs, Type 2 PHEVs, BYDs etc

WHY?
Charging leads and portable charging cables have a plug on each end. One end goes to the power source and the other end connects to the car. The plugs must be the right fit for your car. EVs/PHEVs in New Zealand are either a Type 1 (ex-Japan) or Type 2 (ex-UK/NZ new). Each type has a different shaped charging port. If you buy the wrong charging cable it won’t fit.
TYPE 1 EVS / PHEVS
EVs/PHEVs that are ex-Japan have a Type 1 port and are classified as Type 1 cars.
Simply take a look under the flap and you will see a round plug. This is a Type 1 plug/port/connector.

TYPE 2 EVS/PHEVS
EVs/PHEVs that are ex-UK or NZ new have a Type 2 port and are classified as Type 2 cars. Some makes and models may be both – it depends where they came from.
Simply take a look under the flap and you will see a ‘D-shaped’ plug. This is a Type 2 plug/port/connector.
