Car stereo issues can be frustrating, especially when everything appears in order—until you dig deeper.
Recently, we encountered a case where a year old Lumina Audio stereo wasn’t working for a customer, and the culprit turned out to be a badly modified wiring harness which caused the customer problems from the start.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first case of bad wiring that we have seen.
Here’s what happened and how we solved the issue.
The Problem: Unreliable stereo: The customer brought in their vehicle, complaining that our BTN 400 stereo, which they’d had installed elsewhere, had always malfunctioned.
After verifying the stereo unit wasn’t faulty, we knew the problem had to be in the wiring.
The Investigation: Upon closer inspection, we discovered the vehicle’s wiring harness was messy. During installation someone had cut, spliced, and even twisted wires together with electrical tape—an unreliable and messy approach.
It was clear that instead of using the wiring (we supply with every Lumina Audio head unit) properly, this improper modification meant that the connections weren’t making proper contact, leading to the stereo’s malfunction.
The Plan: Either Reinstall the stereo – supply and fit the new wiring; everything would work as intended.
Or upgrade
The Result: The customer was wowed by our Lumina Audio range of multimedia unit and went for an upgrade.
This case was a classic example of why proper wiring integrity is crucial.
The Takeaway: A professional diagnosis can save you time and frustration, ensuring your system works as intended. Please choose your installer carefully, or give us a call and we can put you in touch with a trusted installer.
